Use this guide to replace worn out handguards on Olympic-style fencing foils. All handguard parts are standardized for fencing; in this case, the old guard is being replaced with a Leon Paul handguard.

Remove the nut securing the handle with the 1 x 6 mm hex key.

Use pliers to hold the hexnut still while using a flathead screwdriver to loosen the socket holding the wire.

Take the wire out under the socket holder's hole.

If there is tape holding down the wire, remove it.

Remove the socket holder.

Remove the old handguard.

Get your new handguard ready.

Thread the wire through the new handguard.

Insert the new handguard on the foil.

Thread the wire through the large sockey holder hole.

Insert the sockey holder back onto the foil.

Thread the wire through and under the small hole of the socket holder, right next to the sockets.

Wrap the exposed part of the wire around the socket.

Using a plier to hold the hexnut, use a flathead screwdriver to tighten the socket.

Make sure that the foil does not feel loose.
-
