Removing the battery is essential to the removal of other components on the Nintendo 3DS XL. Please remember to have the device powered off when following this guide.

Place the 3DS upside down. Remove the game card, headphones, charging cable, stylus, or anything else that may be connected to the device.
-
-
-
Using a JIS #0 screwdriver, loosen the two black screws on the back.
My experience indicates that a JIS #1 is more appropriate here.
Same here, much more appropriate.

Once the screws are loosened, pry open the back cover.
In order to remove the back cover, slide it down towards you and then pry the cover off.

The battery is located on the left hand side of the 3DS - to remove, use the small gap located at the top-middle and pull up with a non metal pointed tool.
Also you should remove any SD card at this point
Does this battery work on a NEW 3DS XL model?
This guide is for the New 3DS XL, which is called the 2015 3DS XL here on iFixit. If you're asking about the 3DS replacement battery advertised in the iFixit store, I believe it works for both new and old models.
The battery is the same and will work on both the new and old models

Bonjour,
The battery didn't work at all. After replacing the old battery I plugged it in and the charging light would go off after a few seconds. I tried to turn on the 3ds with the new battery in and all that would happen is the blue light would flash for less than a second and the 3ds wouldn't turn on
