The sound can sometimes get muffled through both earpieces which probably means there is an issue in the speakers. If the speakers themselves are the problem, then there may not be much of a chance of repairing the existing pair. If the speaker is not functioning properly it may need to be replaced altogether.

Remove the ear cushions and use a Phillips #2 screwdriver to unscrew the three 5mm screws.

Desolder the wires to completely remove the speaker.

Use a heatgun to loosen the glue holding down the speaker.

Pry the speaker out using a plastic opening tool or metal spudger.

Insert new speaker and solder the five wires into corresponding positions onto the new speaker.

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
