RAM, or random access memory, is a form of computer data storage. RAM is used to quickly read and write data which the computer needs rapid access to. If a computer is running very slowly, it may not have enough RAM. In this scenario, the computer reads and writes to 'virtual RAM', also known as 'pagefile', on the hard drive. This is much slower.
