Open the battery cover and remove the AA batteries from the camera if any are inserted.

Use a 00 Phillips-Head screwdriver

Remove the 3 mm screws from the camera.

Four (4) screws are in the bottom of the device

Four (4) screws are inside the battery cover
It isn’t the back cover which is defalse but the 3 plastic pin which the battery cover open and close. Does this part must be change.

my clips broke on my battery door so I bought another camera (same) to replace the whole bottom, but cannot find a way to do it. So now I have 2 broke cameras.
July 10, 2022.. If your door to your Kodak Z 981 will not stay shut, attach your Vertical Picture Grip to the bottom of the camera. That will keep the battery cover shut. It is a pad that attaches to the bottom of the camera so you can turn the camera side ways to take vertical shots . Buy a used one if you do not have one.
