How to replace the logic board, battery, and/or storage on the Kobo Clara HD, model number N249. Not for the Kobo Clara BW or Kobo Clara Colour.

To power off your device, hold down the power button until the "Powered off" screen appears as shown.

Stick a plastic spudger into the gap between the front bezel and the back cover.

The back cover is held on by small plastic notches.

Slide the spudger along the seam to release the back cover.

Pry all the way around until the back cover pops free.

Gently pry up the white battery connector to pop it out of its bracket.

Flip up the black tabs on the three ZIF connectors to release the ribbon cables.
-
The smallest connector, under the big cable, has the black locking tab facing towards the cable.

Slide the ribbon cables out of the ZIF sockets.

The battery is stuck down with strong double-sided tape and secured by a bracket moulded into the back cover.

All the storage is on a microSD card hidden inside the device.

Swap it out at your own risk.

Use a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the 4 screws securing the logic board.

Lift the logic board out from the top of the device.

There is a black sheet of plastic that sits under the logic board.

To reassemble your device, follow these steps in reverse order.

Pro tip: when closing the plastic housing, squeeze it shut close to the edges to avoid putting too much pressure on the display.
