The Kirby G4 vacuum cleaner is a durable and powerful machine known for its deep-cleaning capabilities and long-lasting performance. However, like all vacuums, it requires regular maintenance to operate efficiently. One of the most common maintenance tasks is replacing the vacuum belt, which drives the brush roll that lifts dirt and debris from carpets. Over time, the belt can stretch, wear out, or break, reducing the vacuum's cleaning effectiveness. Replacing the belt is a straightforward process that can restore your Kirby G4 to peak performance. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the steps to safely and efficiently replace the belt on your Kirby G4 vacuum.
-
-
Unplug the vacuum from the power source before doing any maintenance.
-
-
-
Lower the height adjustment all the way down.
-
Unlock the belt lifter on the front of the nozzle by turning the belt lifter handle to the left until the red arrows line up.
-
Release the nozzle latch (on the side of the vacuum) and pull the nozzle off.
-
-
-
Turn the belt lifter handle to the right until the green arrows line up. This will release tension on the belt so you can remove it.
-
-
-
-
Flip the nozzle over to access the bottom plate.
-
Use a spudger or pull the tabs (depending on the model) to remove the plate.
-
Lift out the brush roll — the belt will be looped around it.
-
-
-
Slide the old belt off the brush roll and the motor shaft (if it’s still intact).
-
-
-
Slide the new belt onto the brush roll first.
-
Position the brush roll back into its slot with the belt over the metal motor shaft.
-
-
-
Turn the belt lifter handle to the left (red arrows) again — this will stretch and lift the belt into place.
-
-
-
Line up the nozzle with the front of the vacuum. Lock it back into place using the nozzle latch. Turn the belt lifter handle to the right again (green arrows) to re-engage the belt.
-
-
-
Adjust the vacuum height back to your desired setting. Plug in and turn on the vacuum to ensure the brush roll is spinning properly.
