If your K5 Desktop Humidifier has become ineffective or stopped working properly, it may be time to replace the cotton swab filter.
Humidifiers are a necessity in many people's homes, and by reading my instructions, you can quickly learn that changing the cotton filter is possible. Not only will it help you save money, but it will extend the life of your device.
Be sure to unplug your humidifier before attempting this repair.
Through a series of troubleshooting and overhaul, the problem was found to be in the cotton swab of the humidifier.

Before beginning the repair be sure to unplug from the power source.

Press and hold the humidifier switch. Check whether the connection to the power supply still works.

Use the spudger to slowly pry the middle part of the humidifier at the seam.

Remove the cotton swab and spring from inside the humidifier.

Replace the old cotton swab filter with the new cotton swab.

Put the new cotton swab into the humidifier.

Hand tighten the part where the cotton swab and humidifier meet.

Reassemble the humidifier by snapping on the top half.

Plug in the power adaptor to your USB port to use.
