This guide is meant to be used for people who have a pair of pants in their possession that are too big for them and would like to size them down in order to wear comfortably. There is the risk of pricking yourself when using a sewing needle for this project, so use caution. Some sewing knowledge is helpful to use with this guide, but it is not necessary.

Measure how much of the pants to take in by pinching the back of the pants until it's no longer loose in size.
-
-
-
On both sides, mark the points of the pants that touch with a white colored pencil.
-
-
-
With the white color pencil, starting at your previous markings, draw a diagonal line down and inward towards the middle seam.
-
-
-
Take your thread and pass it through the needle. Be sure to tie the end of the thread.
-
-
-
Insert needle with thread attached from the inside of the pants through the top of the waistband.
-
Be sure to pull the thread all the way through.
-
-
-
-
After the needle and thread are pulled through the first point, insert the needle parallel to the first point. Starting from the inside of the pants, poke the needle along the white pencil marks.
-
-
-
After the second stitch, place the needle and insert it right below the first stitch, this time inserting the needle from outside of the pants.
-
-
-
Pull the thread taught so it stretches across the two insertion points without being loose.
-
Take the needle from the inside, poke the needle night below the last stitch and continue to pull the thread through.
-
-
-
Similar to the previous step, take the needle and following the marked line insert the needle from the outside and poke the needle back out from the inside slightly below the previous stitch.
-
Repeat this process, going down the white line you marked, leaving the spaces in between each line of thread to be about half of an inch.
-
-
-
Repeat this process until you have made it all the way to the bottom of the white marking.
-
Pull the thread taut to tighten the thread in place.
-
-
-
Continue to pull the thread tight until it is hidden within the fabric of the pants.
-
-
-
Tuck the last of the thread back into the pants and tie it off within the inside of the pants.
-
-
-
Repeat steps 4-12 on the opposite sides of the pants where you marked the second white line.
-
-
-
Congratulations! You have now altered the size of your pants.
-
Now your pants should fit your size! To undo this process, use a seam ripper to take out the thread.
