Fishing lures can be scratched or damaged in many ways as a resuIt of bouncing off rocks, becoming snagged, or worn from use. Scratches prevent metal lures from shining and attracting fish. In addition, wooden lures may absorb water which decreases their buoyancy. To initiate this repair you will need gloves, sandpaper, a can of liquid indoor/outdoor polyurethane, and possibly a pair of pliers. This project should be performed in a well ventilated area because of the polyurethane and the sanding required.

Evaluate the material your lures are made from. This will affect your process slightly.

Remove the treble hooks and keyrings from the lure body.

Sand your lures. They can either be fully sanded or just scuffed on the surface. This helps the polyurethane bond to the surface.

Wipe the freshly sanded lures with a wet cloth. Allow it to fully dry.

Tie a string to the lures and dip the lures fully into the polyurethane.

Hang your lures up to dry for at least 24 hours.
