Measure the waist band with a ruler or measuring tape.

Measure your waist.

Subtract the two measurements to determine how many inches you want to add on.

Measure roughly 2 inches below the waistband.

Mark a vertical line with a tailor's chalk, a white pencil, or pins.

Cut down to the end of the line.

Measure and mark the elastic to twice the length you want to add on.

Cut the elastic strip.

Then, cut that same strip at the halfway mark.

Overlap your elastic strips from step 3.

Sew the strips together

Fold the elastic in half.

Cut at about a 60 degree angle (creating a triangle).

Turn the skirt inside out.

Sew the elastic triangle into the opening you cut in Step 2.
