If your check engine light is on and your car has gone into limp mode, you may need to change your VTEC solenoid. The VTEC solenoid controls the flow of oil to the internal galleries of the overhead camshaft.
This guide will help you change a S2000s VTEC solenoid upper with ease.

Locate the VTEC solenoid on the front left of the engine.

Locate and remove the 3 bolts. Set them aside.

Do not drop the cable that is attached by a bolt.

Pull the plug upwards and off of metal cable holder. Disconnect the two cables.

Remove the metal cable holder and set it to the side.

Pull off the upper VTEC solenoid.

-
Grab a new replacement upper solenoid.

Place the gasket (new or used if still good) into its slot.

Spread a small amount of oil along the gasket.
-

Place the replacement upper solenoid back onto the solenoid.
-

-
Grab a metal cable holder and place one of the bolts into it.
-
Hand tighten all three bolts.
-
Ensure the metal cable holder is straight.
-

Tighten all 3 bolts with a ratchet carefully. Do not overtighten as you can strip the bolts.

Plug the cable back in, and attach it to the metal holder.

Wipe down the edges where the two parts meet to pick up any oil that may have spilled.

Congratulations! You now have a properly working VTEC solenoid. Be sure to keep an eye on the solenoid in case of any oil leaks.
