Use this guide to replace the heat sink and fan of your HP EliteBook 840 Aero G8. The heat sink and fan need to be replaced if your device is overheating and not performing properly. Be sure to remove the battery before removing the heat sink and fan, as potential for electric shock is present.

Use a JIS #0 screwdriver to unscrew the three 6.73 mm case retention screws.

Use a JIS #0 screwdriver to unscrew and remove the two 8.76 mm screws.

Use the Halberd Spudger to remove the cable running along the bottom of the battery

Disconnect the cable connected the battery to the motherboard

Use a JIS #0 screwdriver to unscrew the four 7 mm screws that secure the battery.

Slide the battery out of the clips to remove it from the laptop.

Unplug the fan cable from the motherboard.

Use the JIS #0 screwdriver to remove the three 5.33 mm screws that secure the fan.

Use a JIS #0 screwdriver to remove the four 4.06 mm screws from the heat sink.
