Do I have to have this part as it keeps arcing on the body or frame of my car and shorten out my ignition fuse. So do I have to have this part because I noticed when I unplugged it my car cranked up and ran because I forgot to plug it back in. How long can I run without it and what damage does it do? Because I know it has to do with the radio interference with within the steering wheel or something like that and I have no radio so I don't know if that matters

The wires on mine broke off completely and without the capacitor my focus won't even crank over at all..

Just found out that one of the wires on mine is snapped off. Our car has been having the dash going in and out for a few weeks now. I was told to check the ground connection, but didn't look over on that side until today. This part is the only part that looks broken with wires.
