If your Dr. Martens Mary Janes strap isn't staying because the elastic is worn out or broken, this guide is for you! In this guide, you will be replacing a new elastic shoe strap on your favorite pair of Mary Janes. Before beginning, be sure the new elastic is the same dimensions as the existing elastic on the shoe. Step 10 requires basic sewing knowledge on Sewing a Straight Stitch, reminder to be cautious when using the sewing needle.

Remove the buckle from the strap with the broken elastic.

Using a pair of fabric scissors, trim down any frayed elastic on the shoe.

Cut the new elastic to a desired length.

Using a sewing pin, pin the new elastic onto the old elastic.

Insert the buckle through the new elastic.

Fold down the elastic over the buckle.

Cut a small hole with scissors where the prong of the buckle meets the elastic.

Put the prong through the hole.

Pull the elastic fully through buckle.

Pin both sides of the elastic into place on the old elastic.

Hand sew the elastic into place along the pin.

Trim down the excess elastic to your desired fit.

Insert the buckle back into shoe strap.
