Replacing a string on an instrument can be scary. You always want to make sure that you don’t break the replacement! In this guide, we will show you how to remove and replace the string on a cello. These steps would also work perfectly for another orchestral string instrument, such as a violin, viola, or bass. Simply follow the steps and be back to playing your instrument in less than ten minutes!

-
Follow the string up to the peg of the corresponding string. Grab it, and twist it towards you.
-
-
-
Once the peg is loose, follow the string down to the fine tuner, and loosen that as well.
-
-
-
Remove the string and take out your replacement. Insert the end of the string with the bead in it into the fine tuner slot.
-
-
-
-
With the string in the fine tuner slot, line the string up with the rivet in the bridge.
-
-
-
Place the string into the small hole in the peg. Make sure that it gets far enough in!
-
-
-
Re-line the string with the bridge, in case it fell out.
-
-
-
Twist the peg in the opposite direction that you did before. If the cello is facing towards you, then twist it away from you.
