    • Gently pull upwards to remove cables and slide the wi-fi card out from its slot.

You don’t need to disconnect the WiFi card pins. I recommend leaving the antenna connections and just be careful when removing the frame in the next steps. The antenna connections are very fragile

I second that... Came off OK... Gently... I just can't seem to get them reconnected on renistall. Ridiculously difficult...

    Louie Candreva Jr -

This step should be removed. It is completely unnecessary to entirely disconnect the Wi-Fi card. There are no clearance issues that would necessitate this - the inner case can easily be removed around it.

    Luke - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0

I agree, I did not disconnect the antenna cables after removing the WiFi card.

How do I copy the contents of the old SSD to a new SSD. For example if I’m booting from my old SSD but want to update to a larger SSD.

Shouldn’t step 1 be preserving my data? I give you a low score for lack of forethought. Guess another website might have pertinent information.

Note that the battery cable runs UNDERNEATH this internal plastic cover to its plug.

The battery cable is very short and if you do not run it underneath to its correct plug-in location prior to replacing the cover, you may not have enough cable to plug it in correctly.

Very good guide, just one error, step 11 comes first then step 10. You can't lift the card before remove the screw.

First time I've cracked opened up a computer in decades. This step by step guide gave me the confidence I needed! Thank you so much. It took me longer, about two hours with stopping to label screws and things but everything is up and running again. I'm so happy!

Michelle - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0

I would not recommend disconnecting the wifi card. the connectors are tiny. if you screw up, best case you need a new wifi card, worst case you are going to need to replace the antenna, and that isn’t fun.

John Wohlwend - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0

After the battery replacement? do we need to do anything else for calibration so that the Alienware knows that it is a fresh battery and battery cycle ... as i have heard that you need to repeat 3X the process of discharging and charging for calibration. or can we just plug and play? I am getting a new battery for mine soon. Thanks =)

Yannick Docq - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0

Thank for the detailed instructions. However, am stuck with reattaching the wifi card cables, which won't click. I'll continue to try to attach, if not I'll need to send to Dell.....

Step 20 seems to fail to circle the top 3 screws on the first image. Would appreciate if that is updated, or I will see if I can contribute an update to that later.

GeekSquad Agent - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0

I looked up this guide on my battery handicapped computer, synced the browser to my phone browser and turned this computer off to start the procedure. So obviously the computer was working before starting. Besides the battery not holding a charge for longer than 10 minutes, there was another obvious indication the battery was shot. There had grown, over the previous two months, a sizable hump under the area where your wrists rest while typing. Sizable, that the touch pad was now protruding up and out of the chassis enough that you could get your fingernail and part of your finger pad under the touchpad (I also happen to have XXL hands, so not chicken bone fingers).

Long story short, EXCELLENT instructions. I would have added to lay the battery cable into place and to fish the WiFi antenna cables back into the bottom cover before before beginning to secure the 14 screws back down. I noticed this after the second screw, so not a huge deal. Also, Step 3, labled as Hard Drive (HDD) instead of Battery.
