A car's MAF sensor detects how much air is entering the engine to mix with fuel for optimal performance. When it starts malfunctioning, the car might lose power, shake, or use more fuel than necessary. Luckily, a MAF sensor is easily replaceable with a few basic tools.

Pop, open, and prop the hood.

Locate the MAF sensor in the front of the vehicle.

Pull the connector straight back to detach it from the MAF sensor.

Twist the Allen wrench in a counter-clockwise motion to loosen both 10mm socket-head cap screws.

Rock the MAF sensor side-to-side. Once loose, firmly pull the sensor out of the socket.

Insert the new MAF sensor into the socket. Apply firm, even pressure until the sensor is secure.

Twist the Allen wrench in a clockwise motion to tighten both 10mm socket-head cap screws.

Gently push the connector into the new MAF sensor until it clicks into place.
