Overtime leather car seats can rip and tear due to age and use. This guide is showing a fix on a 2009 Honda CRV leather car seat with a fairly significant rip/tear. This guide will show people how to repair a leather car seat to maximize comfort and aesthetic. The repair should take an estimated 45 minutes to an hour, but requires 6 to 12 hours of drying time.

Prepare the damaged area by removing bits of damaged leather/thread.

Clean the area for the repair with rubbing alcohol and paper towels.

Use scissors to cut a piece of backing fabric with rounded edges slightly larger than the damaged area.

Insert the cut backing fabric under the torn leather.

Add colors and the compound to a mixing container.

Refer to a color mixing guide to create the color that best matches your seat.

Mix the colors and filler compound in the mixing container.

Apply the compound mixture to the backing fabric and the damaged area with a small spatula.

Apply a fair amount of the compound mixture to the edges and center to ensure the backing fabric is completely covered.

Use a brush for surface touch ups.

For larger rips/tears, apply additional backing fabric on top of damaged area as necessary.

Cut the backing fabric in the same manner as Step 2.

Repeat Step 6 to apply color mixture to the area.

Cover the entire damaged area with the compound mixture and color match it to your seat as best as possible.

Let it dry for 6-12 hours.
