2001-2004 Toyota Sequoia Radiator Replacement

    • Use a 10 mm socket to loosen the nut securing the negative battery terminal.

    • Pull the negative terminal up and away from the battery.

    • Use a 12 mm socket to remove the 8 bolts securing the skid plate to the under side of the car.

    • Carefully remove the skid plate.

    • Drain the radiator of all coolant by removing the radiator drain plug located on the back of the lower right side of the radiator.

    • The plug should come loose with a slight pull.

    • The radiator is rated at 14.3 quarts, so be prepared with a large catch pan!

    • Use a 10 mm socket to remove the two nuts securing the engine cover to the engine.

    • Gently lift the engine cover up and away from the engine.

    • Use a 10 mm socket to remove the bolt securing the AC hose clamp to the engine.

    • Use a Phillips screwdriver to loosen the two clamps that secures the intake tube to the air filter box.

    • Disconnect the IAT (intake air temperature) sensor.

    • Pull the tube up and out of the way.

    • Use a pair of pliers to pinch and slide back the two clamps securing the main radiator hose.

    • Remove the hose between the radiator and the inlet tube.

    • The tube should come free with a bit of pulling and twisting.

    • Do the same thing on the passenger side.

    • Disconnect the overflow tube.

    • Remove the four 10 mm bolts that secure the fan shroud to the radiator.

    • Remove the four 12 mm bolts securing the radiator to the chassis. (2" extension will help.

    • The radiator is still supported by a few slots and tabs, but it's still a good idea to support the radiator from below.

    • Use a pair and pliers to pinch and pull back the two clamps securing the transmission cooler hoses to the radiator.

    • Use a pair and pliers to pinch and pull back the clamp securing the lower radiator hose on the back of the lower left side of the radiator.

    • Disconnect the three hoses from the radiator.

    • It's a good idea to have your catch pan ready to catch any remaining coolant.

    • Push the fan shroud towards the engine, and pull the radiator up and out of the engine bay.

To reinstall the radiator, follow these instructions in reverse order. Then fill the radiator with 14.3 quarts of Toyota Red antifreeze coolant.
