Background and Identification
Released in Japan and North America in 2002, and later in the EU in 2003, Steel Battalion was a video game published by Capcom for the origonal Xbox, where players would conrol a bipedal mech reffered to as a Vertical Tank. The game came packaged with a specially designed game controller which was required to play the game.
The main controller itself has a square footprint of 354.47 in2, and consists of 44 total input points, primarly buttons, but also used two joysticks, one throttle handle, one radio channel dial, five switches, one eject button, and three foot pedals.
There are two versions of the Steel Battalion Controller: the first edition, which featured green buttons with torsion spring foot pedals that released with the 2002 game, and the second version, which had blue buttons with compression spring foot pedals and was released in 2004 for the online game Steel Battalion: Line of Contact. Both controllers worked with both games.
