Background
The Sony Reader model PRS-500 was a line of e-book readers manufactured by Sony. They invented the first commercial E Ink e-book reader with the Sony Librie. It used an electronic paper display developed by E Ink Corporation, was viewable in direct sunlight, required no power to maintain a static image, and was usable in portrait or landscape orientation.
Compatibility with Adobe digital rights management (DRM) protected PDF and ePub files allowed Sony Reader owners to borrow eBooks from lending libraries in many countries.
Identification
You can identify your Sony Reader model PRS-500 by its rectangular, book-sized shape and black case. The Sony logo is printed at the top center of the front, and “Reader” is debossed at the bottom center of the device.
