SHD77
Background
The Skil Circular Saw SHD77 is a 7-1/4" worm drive circular saw, released in 2011. While there is not a clear date in which manufacturing of the SHD77 was discontinued, similar, updated models - such as the SHD77-02 and MAG77 - have since replaced this device. There are currently no public records detailing how many Skil SHD77 units have been manufactured or sold. At the time of manufacture, the SHD 77 was produced by Skil under ownership of German tools manufacturer, Bosch, but the company has since been put under the ownership of Chevron Hong Kong (HK). While most sales have likely come from within the United States, where Skil originated from, it is not unlikely that units have also been sold worldwide, as the SHD77 was manufactured in China.
As the Skil SHD77 is a circular saw that works best for clean, precise cuts on wooden materials, the intended audience include those involved with construction, carpentry, and woodworking. According to information found via the Wayback Machine, the SHD77 sold for $169.99 USD, but also had other listings that could go as high as $189.99 USD. Some common malfunctions included general wear and tear issues, such as the power cord undergoing fatigue and breakage from extensive usage, as well as the carbon brush of the saw wearing down and leading to power loss. Despite this, the SHD77 was a popular and well liked model at the time of production, as is noted in reviews by Fine Homebuilding and The Journal of Light Construction.
The SHD77 is a part of Skil's popular "77" Series of worm drive circular saws. The SHD77 was preceded by the HD77, and was later updated to the SHD77M model, which featured a lighter magnesium housing. Later on, models like the SPT77WML, which offered features such as a lighter frame, updated bevels for more precise cuts, and a greater lifespan, would replace the SHD77 altogether.
Identification
The Skil SHD77 has a "SKILSAW" logo in the center of the upper protective guard, and usually features two stickers on either side of the guard which indicate the saw's 15 AMP amperage and the model name, SHD77. A top grip is mounted onto the saw, and there is a trigger handle and grip at the rear of the saw, where the power cord is connected.
