5380
Background
The Skil Circular Saw 5380 TYPE 1 (2014) is a budget-friendly saw for any enthusiast looking to get into carpentry. This saw is only intended for wood only any other material would damage the saw blade. Circular saws are a fundamental tool in carpentry, used for making quick, straight cuts in wood. Their portability and power make them ideal for tasks like framing, flooring, roofing, and general construction work.
Some common issues with this saw are overheating, and blade dulling. These issues are due to the fact the saw is corded meaning it can be used for long periods of time before any power is depleted. The blade that SKIL supplies is known for not having the best build quality, it gets dull relatively quick. This leads to the blade getting caught causing the saw to stop abruptly.

Operations
Starter Guide
Always wear proper eye, ear, and respiratory protection, then inspect the saw and blade for damage. Be sure you have the correct hand position for the rotation direction you are going to perform. Always use the correct blade, keep guards and motor clean, secure the workpiece, use both hands, stand to the side, let the saw reach full power, cut steadily without forcing, and disconnect power before adjustments. After adjustments, plug in the saw, and you can begin. The safety switch is designed to prevent accidental starts. To operate the safety switch, press the release button with your thumb on either side of the handle to disengage the lock, then pull the trigger.
Blade Replacement
- Use the wrench to turn the BLADE STUD counter-clockwise and remove it with the OUTER WASHER.
- Lift the LOWER GUARD all the way up and check the LOWER GUARD SPRING.
- Make sure the blade’s teeth and arrow match the arrow on the LOWER GUARD.
- Slide the blade through the slot onto the shaft against the INNER WASHER.
- Reinstall the OUTER WASHER, then tighten the BLADE STUD securely with the wrench.
Do not use wrenches with longer handles, since they may lead to over-tightening of the blade stud
