Background and Identification
The “Braveheart” edition PinePhone is a smartphone by PINE64, a Hong Kong based computer manufacturer, as a Linux-based user-created operating system and is the first publicly available version of the phone. Preorders opened on November 15, 2019 and it was released to consumers in January 2020.
The device features six kill switches and a test operating system until one of the user’s choice is uploaded through the bootable microSD slot. The back of the cover is removed by tabs in the corner of the device.
Later versions would be known as “community editions”, which are now discontinued. In October 2021 PINE64 announced the PinePhone Pro.
There is an embossed pine cone on the back of the device.
