Peugeot 4008: Generation Summary
First Generation (2012–2017)
The original 4008 was a Japanese-built crossover sharing its platform with the Mitsubishi ASX. It combined Mitsubishi’s mechanical 4WD reliability with Peugeot’s exterior styling. It used a Mitsubishi-based electrical architecture (ETACS) rather than the standard Peugeot BSI, making it unique in the lineup for its mix of French design and Japanese electronics.
Second Generation (2016–Present)
This model is exclusive to the Chinese market and is essentially the long-wheelbase version of the European Peugeot 3008. Built on the modern EMP2 platform, it is a purely French design featuring the "i-Cockpit" digital interior and PSA’s standard CAN-bus electrical systems. It was renamed "4008" in China to sit above the original 3008, which remained on sale as an entry-level option.
