Backgroud Information
The Pet Rock is a collectible toy made in 1875 by American businessman and advertising director Gary Dahl. The Pet Rock was marketed as "the perfect pet that would not need to be fed, walked, bathed, or groomed, and it would not die, become sick, or be disobedient".
The rocks themselves were purchased from the city of Rosarito, Baja California, and the beaches of Mexico for less than a penny each and were sold for just under $4 each. The rocks were introduced to the public in August 1975 at a San Francisco trade show, and within 6 months Dahl had sold nearly 1.5 million rocks netting a $1,425,000 profit.
The Pet Rock was discontinued in February of 1976 due to low sales, but in 2022 the toy company Super Impulse purchased the rights to the Pet Rock and revived the brand.
The pet rock came with a carrying cardboard case with holes in it so the rock could breathe and it came with a straw nest for the rock to be comfy and of course it also came with your new friend the rock
