Background
The Lenovo ThinkPad E490 is a reliable laptop designed to be light and robust with business professional’s needs in mind. It was released in 2018 as a replacement model with better internal updates following the Lenovo ThinkPad E480.
Lenovo’s line of ThinkPads are a very popular choice; in 2022 they surpassed 200 million sales of these units since its initial release in 1992. The ThinkPad E490s are one of the older versions, often allowing for better prices through resale. However, one of the most common problems reported was thermal throttling and overheating due to the poorer processing power in the older version of the ThinkPad.
The Lenovo ThinkPad E490 is now considered an end of cycle (EOC) laptop and is being phased out in favor of newer technologies like Lenovo's latest line of ThinkPads: the X series (2025).
Identification
The Lenovo ThinkPad E490 was manufactured in the color matte black, the lid and keyboard are also both black. It will contain the logo "ThinkPad" with a red dot over the “i” in the bottom right corner of the keyboard area. The bottom left side below the end of the keyboard contains the processor information. On the lid at the bottom after the screen ends you will see the right side contains the model type of “E490”, while the left side displays “Lenovo”.
