The HP EliteBook 745 G3 is a business-focused laptop that first showed up back in late September 2015, released along with the 725 G3 and 755 G3. This laptop is part of HP’s EliteBook family, with this one running on AMD’s sixth-gen A12 mobile APU. The 745 G3 was one of a handful of enterprise-grade laptops that leaned into AMD, which was not very common during its time. Most of these shipped with Windows 10 Pro, though HP also gave buyers a few other OS options.

Security was a priority with this model, as HP built-in features specifically for work environments. Users could opt for a fingerprint scanner for built-in biometric security, that enabled easier handling of sensitive data. Additionally, there is a smart card reader for those who need physical card authentication. According to Laptop Mag, the base price started at $749, but if users wanted a higher-performing setup with upgraded CPU, RAM, storage, or a better display, it could run up to $1,049.

The 745 G3 focused on productivity-based tasks like running Office apps (Word, Excel, Outlook), or joining video meetings with Skype and Zoom. However, it was not really made for gaming or power-inducing creative work. To allow for an easier transition between older and newer technology for organizations, HP decided to include VGA and Ethernet connectors (older), along with a USB-C connector (newer).

The HP EliteBook 745 G3 is a 14-inch ultra-slim body, with a silver matte finish and a minimalist HP logo centered on top of the laptop. The laptop's speaker grille above the keyboard is labelled with "Bang & Olufsen," a brand of audio. To add, a fingerprint reader is located to the right of the touchpad and beneath the arrow keys, and a smart card reader is located on the left side of the laptop. The 745 G3 has USB ports, Ethernet, and SD card slot are on the right side.
