Problems I have encountered include replacing the drive belt, as well as clearing up corrosion and the inevitable battery leakage. Of course the brittle wires break off as soon as you look at them, so I have completely reverse engineered the electronics; which I will add once I get my head around how the iFixit wiki system works.
All of the electronics is contained in the top section, which is opened by removing 9 x #1 Philips screws. 6 of them are immediately obvious and accessible, another is hidden inside the battery compartment. The other two are obscured by the centre tower that is clipped in and makes access very difficult. However, using side cutters you can nibble away a few mm of plastic and remove those screws. This doesn't weaken the toy and isn't visible in normal use.
