Background
The Dräger Evita 2 dura is a long-term ventilator for intensive care for adults, children, and neonates. It supports multiple ventilation modes including:
- IPPV (CPPV, PLV, AutoFlow, IRV)
- SIMV (PLV, AutoFlow)
- MMV (PLV, AutoFlow)
- SB, CPAP, ASB, BIPAP, BPAPAssist, APRV
- Special modes: Apnoea Ventilation and ILV
The Dräger Evita 2 dura also monitors:
- Airway pressure (Paw)
- Expiratory minute volume (MV)
- Inspiratory breathing gas temperature
- Expiratory CO₂ concentration (etCO₂)
- Functional O₂ saturation and heart rate
- Inspiratory breathing volume, Apnoea time, and Tachypnoea
The Evita 2 dura offers the following interface protocols:
- Printer (HP Deskjet 500 series 500 and compatible printers with serial interface)
- MEDIBUS (Dräger communications protocol for medical appliances)
- LUST (List-controlled universal interface driver program).
The Dräger Evita 2 dura is part of Dräger's long-running Evita line. It was released in 1997, and it was an upgrade of the Dräger Evita 2. The Dräger Evita 2 dura is different in that it has a more modern color screen and graphics. It also has more modular upgradeability (options like APRV, AutoFlow, CO₂ monitoring, NIV/Mask mode and advanced monitoring packages), and an improved user interface and monitoring display. It had a class 2 recall by the FDA in July 2008 for the power failure alarm not being enunciated at the required volume. This recall was for ventilators with the catalog number 8411800 that had CO2 Carrier Printed Circuit Board (PCB) part number 8306611 replaced between January 2005 and May 2008. The Dräger Evita 2 dura was succeeded by the Dräger Evita Infinity V500.
The Dräger Evita 2 dura was not exclusive only to certain countries, as it was sold worldwide. The intended users are hospital clinical staff such as intensivists, anesthesiologists, respiratory therapists, and ICU nurses. Currently, the price for a used or refurbished Dräger Evita 2 dura is anywhere from $700-$3,599. The price is dependent on the device conditions, options, and region.
Identification
On the front of the device on the top-left area, the Dräger logo is displayed. On the top-right, the model name "Evita 2 dura" is displayed.
The ventilator features a rectangular display screen situated on the left half of the control panel, which displays ventilation parameters and waveforms. On the right side of the front of this device is a grid of soft-touch buttons and digital displays for adjusting and monitoring settings such as tidal volume, pressure, and oxygen concentration. There is a single rotary knob that is located in the lower right corner of this button section. This knob is used for navigating menus and confirming settings.
Below this display panel, there is a row of labeled function buttons that includes controls for ventilation modes, standby, and alarms. The standby key is positioned near the middle of this lower row.
On the bottom portion of the front of the device, there are two patient-circuit ports. The left port is for expiration (Exp), and the right port is for inspiration (Insp). Near these ports, there is also a horizontal handlebar attached to the device that is used for maneuvering the equipment.
The ventilator is typically situated on a mobile stand with a column beneath the main unit. The rear panel includes gas supply connections, a power cord socket, cooling vents, and the main power switch.
