== Background and Identification ==

The Nellcor N-65 is a pulse oximeter made by Mallinckrodt’s Nellcor division. This model is sometimes called the Nellcor OxiMax N-65. Pulse oximeters are non-invasive devices used to monitor a patient’s oxygen saturation. The Nellcor division focuses mainly on producing pulse oximeters and oxygen monitors.

The Nellcor N-65 is a hand-held model that can be used for spot-checking or continuous monitoring in acute care settings, physicians’ offices or clinics, or EMS/transport environments. This model is compatible with the complete line of single-patient-use, reusable, and specialty OxiMax sensors. Depending on the battery type, the N-65 monitor can last between 19 and 40 hours on one charge. The device requires 6 Volts of power supplied by four Alkaline or Lithium AA-size batteries. It is suitable for use with adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients.

The N-65 pulse oximeter provides both visible and audible alarms. Alarms are produced when a variable moves outside the operator-defined limits. The monitor features a display that shows the patient’s oxygen saturation, pulse rate, and a vertical bar graph for pulse strength. Indicators on the device also show pulse amplitude, pulse search, low battery, alarm silence, interference, sensor disconnect, data in sensor, and print.

The N-65 model may be sold with a moisture-resistant jacket, a carrying case, a protective boot, or a portable infrared printer. The name “OxiMax N-65” is printed underneath the device’s digital display. The manufacturer’s name, “NELLCOR,” is printed in capital letters at the bottom of the device’s front face.
