It is designed for professionals in masonry and metalworking, The D28116 was marketed as a high-power Small Angle Grinder (SAG) for heavy-duty metal removal and concrete cutting. It was one of the first in its class to feature the Dust Ejection System, which uses centrifugal force to eject debris out of the tool before it reaches the motor. While DeWalt doesn't disclose total numbers of units sold, the D28116 was widely available in both north American and European markets and is a mainstay on shelves of large big box hardware stores that still have an excess of units. The D28116 has had no official manufacturer recalls, but is prone to several failure situations that are common in high vibration power tools such as: switch failure, carbon brush wear, power cord fatigue, and flange nut seizing. the D28116 has received universal praise for its power to weight and size ratio, but many consumers complain about heat build up in the gearbox with extended use. The unit retailed for 120-150 USD and can be found refurbished around the same price to this day. The D28116 replaced the D28114 as the high-output option in the 28000-series, offering a higher amperage motor and improved debris management. It was eventually succeeded by the DWE402, which featured a more streamlined body and redesigned "Dust Ejection System 2.0."
