Dewalt Angle Grinder D28114 - TYPE 1 (2014)

The DeWalt D28114 (TYPE 1) is a 13-amp, 4-1/2″–5″ corded small-angle grinder with a paddle switch, low-profile jam-pot gear case, and Dust Ejection System. This model, released in 2014 uses a brushed motor with replaceable carbon brushes and supports both 4-1/2″ and 5″ wheels via a 5/8″-11 spindle. Common service items include the brush set, cord protector, flanges, and gear-case grease.

This tool is commonly used for cutting metal objects and grinding surfaces using cutting and abrasive wheels. This particular model was introduced in 2014, with an MSRP of around $285. Today you can find this tool used for around $80 as the D28114 was later replaced by the DWE43114 series, which improved safety and reliability while maintaining the same chassis.

There are several identifiers that can be used to verify the model of this tool. There are the yellow and black colors of the DeWalt brand, and a paddle switch commonly known as the dead man's switch on the underside of the tool. There should be 3 dust ejection vents on the top of the tool, and a two position handle that can be mounted on either side of the tool near the center of the front. A very reliable way to verify is by the label on the right side of the motor housing, reading DEWALT D28114 TYPE 1 – 120 V AC – 60 Hz – 13 A – 11,000 RPM.
