These are mid to high-end laptops introduced by Dell in 2006. Shipping with anything from Intel Centrino to Core 2 Duo, they varied widely in capability. The 6400 is identical internally and externally to the E1505.

Upgrades

  • Both have a SATA hard drive, and are upgradeable to any sata driver currently in production. The SATA controller is SATA 1.5Gb/s, limiting the maximum transfer speed of an SSD.
  • Both take PC2-5300 (DDR2 667) memory, and definitely support 2GB, though the 6400 can utilize most of 4GB (3.2GB).
  • The processor can be upgraded to any socket M processor, up to a T7600.
  • The wireless card is a b/g miniPCI express card, and can be upgraded to b/g/n/ac.
  • Graphics are one of three choices: Onboard Intel, Nvidia Geforce Go 7300, ATI x1300, or ATI x1400 (the fastest for this system).
  • Bluetooth was an option, but can be installed after the fact, with a Dell 350 or 355 bluetooth adapter, or with an upgraded wireless card with bluetooth.
