Background
Released in August 2007, the Canon PowerShot A720 IS is an upgraded version of the Canon PowerShot A710 IS, which emerged just a year prior. What distinguishes it from its predecessor is its improved sensor and image processor, and a notable increase in its ISO sensitivity as well as its ability to use face detection technology. The latter allows for higher quality portraits and other pictures with human subjects.
Other features include red eye elimination, autofocus, and auto exposure, and a print/share button to facilitate downloading and direct printing.
Canon's A-series cameras are lauded for their ergonomic design, broad range of easy-to-use features, and impressive value relative to their price.
Identification
You can identify your Canon PowerShot A720 IS camera by the model number printed on the front case. The serial number can be found on the bottom of the camera, printed on a sticker near the tripod socket. For additional help identifying your camera, take a look at the Canon support page.
