Manual movement of mode actuator still doesn't turn on defrost

Hello-I have an 06 silverado. Control knob for vent/floor/defrost went out after I spilt some change and a single dime went down a defrost vent (stupid I know). Yesterday, I found out on youtube how to manually move the mode actuator. If I move the actuator manually, I can get heat to come out the floor or vents but the position that should be defrost doesn't blow any air out of the defrost vents. Any thoughts on a fix? Can I physically get into the air vent to remove the dime/could the dime really be the reason the vent door is causing a problem or is it something bigger? Seems strange that the actuator will work for floor and vent but not defrost....

Unfortunately this sounds like you're gonna need to pull the dash to actually get in there. Last time I had this happen the door itself was stuck, and though the actuator moved, the part of the door it attached to broke off the door so wouldn't move it. I could be wrong. Maybe get a bore camera that has a light and feed it down the defrost vent to actually get a good look at what is happening?
