Why do replacement optical/disc drives come with a logic board

i bought a replacement drive off amazon and when i came to take the replacement apart there is a logic board in but my q is why is this when there is no main board to attach the drive board to

surely the replacement drives do not need a logic board especially for when replacing the disc/optical drive in any modern console whether it be ps3 Xboxes or another console that has a disc drive in it it makes 0 sense

Also, most drives still DO come with a PCB. They are most of the time scrapped from another console. You do need your original (old) drive it’s PCB to read games for modern consoles indeed. Starting from PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii U.
