rf31medbsr Freezer works, Fridge isn't staying at temp

I have French Door 2 Drawer Freezer. It was making a loud noise about a week ago, a fan I am assuming. I thought it was the fan from the freezer so I ordered a part but definitely was not the same fan system. Any ideas where the problem may be, is the freezer fan most likely the problem as it blows the cool air up into the fridge. Now the Freezer doesn't work since I removed the fan and unplugged it from the back of the freezer.

Hi @kurtmeyer83377

Here's the service manual for the model.

Go to p.71 of 130 Sect. 2) Self-diagnostic function during normal operation, to see how to enter the service diagnostics and check what error codes may be displayed. The error codes and their possible causes are shown on the following pages.

I removed the fan from the Freezer, so that is the code I am getting (21E) which is a Fan error, prior to me removing the fan, there was no error code. But the Fridge was only cooling to about 50 degrees Fahrenheit, the freezer was maintaining a -2 temp and the drawer were cool but the fridge was not maintaining a temp below 50 degrees.

There should be a fan in the freezer compartment to help distribute the air and control the temp in the freezer.

There is an evaporator fan in the refrigerator as well to blow cooler air across the evap unit in the refrigerator compartment (it has two evap units, one in each compartment, freezer and fridge) to keep it at the required temp.

Check if the evap unit in the refrigerator compartment is cold. If not it may be a problem with the fridge temp sensor, the control board or the 3 way valve that controls the flow of the refrigerant between the two evap units

Once you replace the fan in the freezer can you hear it running when the doors are closed?

The fan will operate when the compressor is running and the doors are closed but will stop when a door is opened and start again when it is closed. The compressor will keep on running though.

If not since you've replaced the fan you need to check the fan's operate circuit.

Follow the troubleshooting flow chart for the F Fan on p.95

The fan was making loud noises about 2 weeks ago it made a loud buzz and hum, it would stop when the door opened and then would continue when the doors were closed again. I am just unsure which fan it is, I ordered and fan and thought it was the fan behind the back panel in the freezer but the one I ordered did not fit in that spot. I still have it in pieces, but plugged it back in without that fan, the freezer is still getting to temp even without the fan, because removed that fan, I assume that is why I am getting the error message. I will put the fan back in tonight and listen to see if I can here it. I am pretty sure the problem is a fan, just not sure which fan.

Check that the fan in the refrigerator compartment is OK
