Laptop turns on but doesn't boot, black screen

Hey, so this has happened since a year.

My laptop turns on, but doesn't boot, screen is black, keyboard lights up but unresponsive. Used to work for a bit randomly, but I couldn't turn it off. When it did, it only turned on when using the Shut Down from Windows, not button, and turned on immediately. Otherwise, dead again.

Any ideas?

Sounds like a bad motherboard to me but could be several things. I'd suggest opening it up and taking a picture.

Hi @arsaademi

Try a full power refresh in case the BIOS is corrupted preventing a normal start.

  • Disconnect the charger (if connected), open the laptop and disconnect the main battery cable from the motherboard and then unplug the cmos battery from the motherboard.

Here's the hardware maintenance manual for the laptop.

Go to p.34 (41 of 86 pdf) in the manual and p.62 (68 of 86 pdf) respectively to view the procedures on how to do the above.

When the cmos battery is out, measure its voltage. if it is <2.5V DC or if it is >4-5 years old, replace it. Search online for 5B10S34078 or 5B10S34077 to find suppliers that suit you best. (supplier example only).

  • Press and hold the laptop's Power button operated for a full 30 seconds and then release it.
  • Reconnect the cmos battery, reconnect the main battery, reassemble the laptop, connect the charger and check if it turns on OK
