iPad Air (3rd Generation) won't charge

My iPad fell off the couch while charging and landed bottom side down with the cord connected. It will no longer charge unless I wrap the cord around the iPad so that the tension on the connector is pulled up (toward the ceiling if the iPad is laying flat). And that's not consistent. Is there a way to fix this? I've replaced the iPad itself, so I'm willing to do this DIY and fail.
