HI Angel,

What model iPhone do you have? Repair instructions are different for each model, so we'll need to know which one you have in order to give you valid information.

Has anything happened to the phone recently, such as being dropped, exposed to liquids, etc.? It sounds as though your digitizer (touch screen) may have failed, which wouldn't allow you to do anything on the screen. If you have a later model with a USB-C port, you may be able to plug in a mouse that would allow you to maneuver the screen if you can't use the touch screen; for earlier models you'll need a USB-to-lightning adapter.

I'd say your next step might want to be to put the phone in DFU mode (a Google search will tell you how, but I can't say without knowing your model) and do a factory reset. Note that all of your data will be wiped, so be aware that you'll lose all of your information if you don't have a backup.

If that doesn't work, I'd say you'll need to replace the screen. Instructions on how to do that are available here on iFixit, but once again I can't give you specifics without the model number.

Update (07/21/25)

Okay, armed with that additional information, I'd say the delicate connections between the glass the digitizer circuitry is printed on and the flex cable going to the motherboard got disrupted in the drop. So I'm fairly confident you'll need a new screen to make your phone functional again. iFixit has a guide showing you step by step instructions on how to do that yourself.

iPhone XR Screen Replacement - iFixit Repair Guide

If you're not confident in your ability to do the repair, your only other choice would be to take it to a repair shop, but thousands of people have successfully done that sort of repair using iFixit guides.

You mentioned that the rear of the phone is broken as well. In that case it will depend on whether the frame is damaged or bent as to what repair to do on it. If the frame is okay and it's just the glass that's broken, the glass can be replaced by itself. One of our contributors made a video showing the process, but be aware that it's difficult; you have to completely gut the phone, then chip out the existing glass, which is held on by very strong glue.

Note that the written instructions only go so far with regard to the procedure; the author used all of the available existing guides to fill in as much information as he could, but it does not show the full process; only the video has everything.

The other alternative would be to buy a replacement housing. You'll have to go through the same steps as the back glass replacement guide, but instead of replacing the glass, you'll simply reassemble them into the new housing, which will have the glass already in place.

If you do decide to fix the back, be sure to use heat to soften the adhesives on all the cables glued to the frame; some of them are very delicate and I can tell you from experience it's all too easy to tear one. If that happens it's not fatal, but you will have to buy a replacement part, all of which are readily available.

That's about everything I can think of to get you going again; good luck with it, and be sure to come on back and let us know how it all turns out!
