New Battery Detected but Restart & Finish Repair is failing
Parts & Service keeps showing "A new battery was detected" and offers the "Restart and Finish Repair". I tried this several times and each time it would appear to complete successfully but would reappear after a reboot. I finally did a DFU restore (iOS 18.5) to the phone and now the "Restart and Finish Repair" just results in a spinning wheel for about 5 minutes then a return to the blue text "Restart and Finish Repair". This phone has a new aftermarket screen and I was told the battery that is in it was replaced by an Apple store shortly before I bought the phone (it is a genuine Apple battery and shows 100% health - with a warning about unable to determine etc.). Has anyone seen this before and what can I do to correct it? Or, will the phone be usable by someone if they just ignore that? I would like to sell the phone.

Further update. I happen to be friends with the tech at my local Apple Authorized Service Provider who worked on this phone for the guy I bought it from. The story I was told was he attempted to install a new battery. The new battery did not solve a charging problem so the tech checked the "did not complete repair" or "repair failed" box in his ticket which flagged the phone. I asked him to see if he could do anything but when he contacted apple and they discovered the phone had an aftermarket screen and charging port on it, the only option they offered was a paid (by me) replacement phone. They were not interested in fixing whatever flag was placed on this phone. So, I think that is likely the issue. I guess the phone will probably be usable as is but it's going to be annoying I'm sure. If this additional info triggers any ideas from people I'd be glad to hear your ideas I can try.

If you plan to sell the phone, see if you can erase it and install the factory iOS rather than the latest. That should by-pass the A new battery was detected. The other option is replace the battery with (also) an after-market battery and sell it as is :)
