My screen doesn't always turn on
when I turn it on my screen turns on then off

Connect an external monitor (TV?) to the laptop's hdmi port and check if you lose the display on it when the display on the laptop turns off.
Press the F8 key (Fn+F8?) a few times to get both screens on at the same time making it easier to see if they both turn off or only the laptop's display.
