PS2 Slim 90000 question cooling

I received and kept a PS2 Slim 90000 and noticed that there is a bit of thermal paste between the metal plate and the thermal pad. Is it necessary to remove this white thermal paste because it damages the stored console or can I keep the console with this thermal paste without problems indefinitely, I turn on the console once a year for 1 hour?

If I keep the thermal paste and never change it in the future, dry or liquid paste, will the PS2 Slim 90000 have heating problems because of the paste? I turn on the console once a year for 1 hour

example:

thermal paste on top of a thermal pad and on top of the paste a heat-dissipating metal plate, will the thermal paste greatly impair the heat transfer between the thermal pad and the metal plate? I got a used PS2 Slim 90000 and they applied some of this paste to the area I mentioned

Does thermal paste have an expiration date even when applied to an electronic device that will be powered once a year for 1 hour?

If someone put thermal paste between the thermal pad and the metal plate of a device's processor, will this white thermal paste cause a lot of heat and greatly impair dissipation? Example: EE/GS chip from the PS2 Slim
Can the white thermal paste on top of the thermal pad transfer the heat from the thermal pad to the metal plate?

From factory it does NOT have thermal paste there. Only a thermal pad. I recommend to remove the old thermal pad and thermal paste. And get a new thermal pad with the same dimensions and thickness and put it on there. As the thermal paste is on top of the thermal pad, it won't cause a lot of heat, but it should not be there as from factory standards. Thermal paste do have an expiration date. Recommended is to replace it every 3-5 years, also depends on the brand.

Uhm, so far I know, the PS2 slim only use thermal pads.

Was the PS2 Slim openened before you’ve received it?

Does it work with the termal paste between it? If yes, you could replace the paste and thermal pad, just to be sure.

But,, if it’s not overheating at the moment, I would just leave it and see how it goes.

This console model arrived to me with the cooler dead. I thought the previous owner thought the problem was in the CPU and opened the console and put some thermal paste between the thermal pad and the metal. I changed the cooler and the console works normally, but I have doubts. If I keep this thermal paste, it will harm the heat exchange between the thermal pad and the metal. And if this white thermal paste dries out or turns into liquid when the console is turned on once a year for 1 hour.

Best thing to do: remove the thermalpad and remove the thermal paste. Put a fresh new thermal pad on it. Just make it back like it was from the factory. That should do it!

Currently it does not appear to be overheating after an hour of use and the console does not turn off or restart

Does the PS2 Slim 90000 have a high temperature protection system that prevents the CPU from reaching a temperature that reduces its useful life of all chips?

You could leave it this way. But for optimal performance, please do above. Yes. The PS2 Slim should shutdown to protect it self. Also the fan will make a lot noise.
