I did that and the external image is fine. Any thoughts? Also, tried

another known good screen......

It sounds like your LCD is damaged, assuming that the lines don't disappear after startup. Here's a guide to replace an LCD

The LCD may or may not be the problem. The video data cable could be bad or the cable ends not seated properly. Don't you think they ought to look there first since the LCD can only display the information given to it. If the cable is bad the LCD won't display a proper picture.
