Face Id sometimes doesn't work after charging flex replacement.

I was facing sudden shut down issue while putting my phone into charging. With the help of this community i found out that it’s the charging flex issue. So i changed my charging flex with a 3rd party charging flex (from aliexpress). After that the sudden shut down issue is solved.

After few days of that new issue appeared. My face id suddenly stops working randomly. If i restart my phone it works fine. Again after several hours ( any time) face id stops working again. If i restart and face id start working again. Face id disables again after few hours as before. Restart and it starts working again. Front camera and everything works fine while face id is disabled. What may causing the issue and how to solve?

Hi,

You could try setting up an alternate appearance on FaceID and seeing if that works.

You could also make sure you have the latest iOS installed.

But here’s the thing, if you change your earpiece flex you lose FaceID straightaway, unless you transfer the chips from the old flex to the new one.

So if you have FaceID working, (you or someone else) must have transferred the chips, so the issue could be that one of the chips wasn’t cleaned and reflowed properly and has poor contact on the solder joint/s and may need redoing.

Okay, then it’s possible that you may need to have the earpiece flex IC’s reflowed, moisture getting into the earpiece can start corrosion under the IC’s causing the loss of FaceID and in this case you may be starting to see the early effects with it being random at present.

This may include replacing the earpiece flex as well.

Yes, that is the one, there is another smaller one on the end too.

Yes, dust and/or water staining can also affect the FaceID as well as a dirty/cracked or smeared lens or LCD.

This is not an easy home repair unless you have all the equipment.

The only way to confirm if your flex is starting to fail (after warming up) and is causing the issue, is to remove the IC’s inspect and reflow.

It shouldn’t be an expensive shop repair either but you can get an estimate before hand if you can’t do this yourself.

Another option would be to make sure you have system diagnostics turned on and get an panic error report that you can post and community members with interpreting the panic log can help.

Hi, this sounds like a hardware issue no question. To completely rule out software why not make an iCloud backup of your phone then reset the phone in dfu mode, just to completely rule out a software glitch beyond any doubt.
