Repair and disassembly guides for ice making appliances including portable icemakers, ice generators, and ice machines.

Frigidaire countertop icemaker won't take up water

Ice maker had started making tiny pieces of ice, so I ran a cleaning cycle with commercial ice maker cleaning solution, and scrubbed the inlet with a toothbrush. I ran another cleaning cycle with clear water, drained it, and then refilled the reservoir with clean water. The machine won't take any water from the reservoir, either on the cleaning or icemaking cycles. It attempts to start the cycle, then stops, and the light to add water comes on. The water level remains at the fill line.

Hi @terristurm

It may be a problem with the pump or perhaps the water level switch.

If it is either of these and one is faulty and needs to be replaced then unfortunately you may not be able to repair it because there's no product support from the manufacturer i.e. no spare parts and no service manuals etc.

If you want to try and fix it then you may have to disassemble it and manually test if the pump and switches work electrically e.g. use a DMM (digital multimeter) and then if one is faulty hope that there's some information on them showing make and model number or part number for the part and then try to find that online.

Searching online regarding your ice maker shows that you're not the only one experiencing this problem only to find that there's no support from the manufacturer after the warranty has expired.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll definitely check those out and see if I can find any parts. It's worth a try before throwing it away!

If you don’t hear the water pump kicking on to pump water, you may need to replace or service the pump. Mine was stuck spinning on the shift inside the motor. Part number: New Water Pump ZLWB-12 hicon is the brand in mine. I checked sensor on mine first and it was clean. This fixed the “add water” issue for me.

Hi @marcosjsteelman

What is the make and model number of your icemaker?

Given that the icemaker isn't 1 year old yet, perhaps first check what the manufacturer's warranty period is on the icemaker (usually shown in the user manual or as a separate document supplied with the product), just in case it is still within the warranty period.

If it is, go the warranty route to get it fixed.
