USB ports don't work.

After that I installed a new hard drive the two usb ports don't work any longer. When I put in the usb memory it lights up for one or two seconds and then nothing more. There is some contact but not enough to reed it. How do I analyze and fix this problem. I will bee very thankful to get any hint!

Ciao Dick.

Could you connect something else like a usb mouse or a keyboard in your ports ?

No. If I put in the mouse it get light and it remain. But it give no reaction to the pointer.

I'm guessing you are refering to a USB flash drive and not system memory. Can you try the flash drive with another computer? Also does this problem exist with more than one flash drive? If the problem is limited to this iBook you may have a problem with your logic board. Good luck. Ralph

It worked just alright before I changed the hard drive. The logic board seem to be the problem.

At this point based on your answers I suspect the logic board has a problem. Ralph

Did these work on your Mac BEFORE you installed the new hard drive?

Sometimes USB flash drives that have been formatted on a PC don't show up on a Mac, unless you format them on a Mac. If you go into Disk Utility, hopefully you'll see them listed, at which point you can select them and format them (don't do this if they have data on them you want to save), and from that point on they should work on your Mac.

I find that usually I can read Windows flash drives on a Mac but can't read a Mac drive on Windows. Ralph

Well it was good before I installed the new hard drive. And I could also read Windows formatted flash drives.
