Wolfgang, why do you have to format your Acer? What happened to it?

I am not 100% certain of Acer ships these with a recovery partition or DVD. That said many laptops use a recovery partition today. If you press Alt+F10 or ESC and get into system recovery you have a recovery partition.

If you need additional guidance or a visual aid, watch this video.

How you recover depends on the drive. If it's a replacement you do not have a recovery partition and will need installation media and a USB optical drive if you don't image the media and write the ISO to a USB flash drive. It doesn't have to be OEM, but that option does make recovery easier since you don't have to mess with drivers and activation. This will also wipe the entire drive, which includes your data.

If you do not have a recovery partition and use a non OEM install disc your product key has to be legible because you will need it. If it isn't you either need the OEM media or a new Windows license. This may exceed the value of your netbook.

If you install Win7, max the netbook's RAM out to 2GB. The guide can be found here.
